Introducing our hardened flat platens, precision-engineered for durability and performance.
These hardened flat platens are CNC machined from billet, cold rolled 1018 steel. They are then professionally case hardened to 59-62 Rc at a depth of .05 inches. This hard and abrasion resistant layer allows the platen to withstand heavy grinding while maintaining its proper shape. However, these are a wear item and will eventually need replacing. These platens cost half of similar platens made from tool steel meaning that your cost per blade will be cheaper even if they do not last quite as long. These are an excellent upgrade from any stock platen. Both sides of these platens are surface ground and can be flipped when worn down. When both sides are worn they can be sent back and reground flat several times. If they are worn through the case hardening I will discount 50% on a new platen. The regrind cost is $10 per platen plus shipping.
2 built in 1/4-20 bolt spacings at 6 and 6.75 inches to match most grinders. (9 inch platens have an additional set of holes with an 8 inch spacing)
Platens generate a lot of friction and heat. It is highly recommended you run a magnetic, water cooled heatsink in conjunction with your platen. (Heatsink sold here)
